Can’t believe I’ve missed this for this long. Earthwork is done for the circuit apparently, and they’ll soon begin to lay down track. India’s first Grand Prix circuit appears to be a mostly flat, straight circuit abbreviated with sharp turns and kinks – not really much along the line of sweepers or tightening-radius turns. The track looks short and fast, and should facilitate a good spectacle. The article has an image of the planned track layout.
Organisers of next year’s inaugural Indian Grand Prix are hoping that input from Formula One teams into the design of the new circuit will help make it one of the most challenging and exciting on the F1 calendar. Hermann Tilke, the architect behind several recent new circuits including Turkey and Abu Dhabi, came up with the initial design for the Indian track, but several teams were also consulted before construction began in earnest.
