Warm winter = thin ice.
An ice fishing tournament in Wisconsin turned somewhat ugly when 36 vehicles fell through the ice, police said Sunday. A total of 50 cares were parked on the lake for the ‘Battle on Bago’ contest, when the ice cracked completely submerging 18 vehicles. 14 were sunk to the top of their wheels while four were partially submerged.
While the ice was estimated to be a foot thick, the sun and increasing temperatures along with the weight of the cars started to soften the top layer of the lake.
No passengers were in the car while they sunk, said police.
