For years, the main concern people have had with electric cars is range – how will people cross the country in electric cars?
Elon Musk has been preparing an answer.
Live pack swap demo on Thurs night at 8pm California time at our design studio in Hawthorne. Seeing is believing.

Imagine you’re embarking on a cross country trip in a Tesla. You’re about 250 miles down the road – about the time you’d pull over for gas in a normal car, or at least, a break. You pull into the station, but now, instead of filling gas, you hand the keys over to the technician, and get some food.
You come out, get back in your car, and drive off, the car now equipped with a fully charged battery, different maybe than the one you drove up with, but ready to roll anyway – and it’s on to the next one.
This is exactly the scenario Tesla feels the swap program will enable – to that end, they’ll be demoing a live battery pack swap – because Musk believes in showing, not telling.
