Google launches offline play for YouTube in India, ignores the U.S.

This feature lets people take videos offline to watch later during short periods of low or no internet connectivity.

I noticed this on a recent trip to India and I was able to store a video for watching later, but as soon as the phone noticed I wasn’t in India anymore, it cut me off.

The icon indicating availability for storage also disappeared, so it’s clear that the availability of these features are being actively managed based on location.

This seems like a really convenient feature even for the US, where on occasion YT videos take a long time to buffer, or when people stream the same video (see: Nyancat) numerous times.
